Southern Ontario Development Program

Mr. Ed Holder (London West, CPC): Mr. Speaker, London and other cities in Southern Ontario, especially those built on the manufacturing sector, have felt the pain of this global recession.

Our government has been preparing to deliver economic development tailored to the needs of people, businesses and communities in Southern Ontario.   Our focus remains on rebuilding our economy.

On Friday in London, this Conservative Government announced the Southern Ontario Development Program that will help communities create an environment where businesses can thrive, and maximize the potential of Southern Ontario.

Could the Minister of State tell those in Southern Ontario how this new program will make a difference at this critical time?

Hon. Gary Goodyear, Minister of Science & Technology: Mr. Speaker, On Friday, I was in London, Ontario, and had the pleasure of launching the new Southern Ontario Development Program.  Small and medium sized businesses, community and Aboriginal organizations, and municipalities can now apply for funding that will help them improve productivity, innovation, commercialization, economic development and diversification in southern Ontario.

This is just one of many programs FedDev Ontario is supporting to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

While the Liberals are preoccupied with trying to force and election, our number one priority remains the economy.
