Conservatives Announce Massive $16M Funding for Fanshawe
O T T A W A
- Members of Parliament Ed Holder and Joe
Preston are pleased to announce that Fanshawe College will be the recipient of
$15,925,000 in funding for their Centre for Applied
Transportation Technologies as part of the joint federal-provincial
Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP).
“This is a
significant investment in Fanshawe College and all of London will
benefit as a result,
especially with the new jobs in the short-term.
This is the stimulus spending we have been pushing, which
will help our local economy recover while investing in long-term
innovation. This is an
example of the swift response that is possible when the federal and
provincial governments work for the best interests of our
community,” said MP Holder.
This investment is part of the
federal government’s two-year, $2-billion plan to repair and expand
research and educational facilities at Canadian colleges and
universities. The program is
helping to provide economic stimulus and promote employment by
creating jobs for engineers, architects, tradespeople and
technicians. It is also helping to generate the advanced
technological infrastructure needed to keep Canada’s colleges and
universities at the forefront of scientific advancement.
“Howard Rundle, President of
Fanshawe College was delighted with the news when I contacted him.
Fanshawe will be able to offer opportunities to its students
that were not possible before.
I get the sense we will see some pretty exciting stuff come
out of Fanshawe when this project is complete,” said MP Holder.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan
sets out to stimulate the Canadian economy over the next two years
and to improve our long-term competitiveness through $12 billion in
new infrastructure investment, which includes the $2-billion
Knowledge Infrastructure Program. This new support is the next
substantive investment in the Government of Canada’s multi-year
Science and Technology Strategy,
Mobilizing Science and
Technology to Canada’s Advantage.
