Holder Welcomes New Technology
February 15, 2011
– London West Member of Parliament Ed Holder welcomed the
announced new options available in the background checking process
used for those wishing to work with vulnerable people such as
children and Seniors.
“When I was first elected, the problem of growing delays for
background checks was brought to my attention from several
organizations and I’m pleased we have a solution today. The
checks used to take weeks, then months and now they will take just
minutes,” said Holder.
“We are working to keep families and communities safer and this
RCMP-developed technology will
improve the speed and accuracy of police checks for those Canadians
who wish to work or volunteer with seniors, children, or other
vulnerable individuals. Many organizations will now be able to
better protect their clients and better work with their volunteers,”
said Holder.
Today, the RCMP highlighted new
fingerprint-scanning technology that is now available to police
forces across the country and which can perform effective and
accurate vulnerable sector checks in a matter of minutes.
Currently, more than 20 police agencies are already using this
technology for various purposes.
Our Government is proud to be helping more of the
best-intentioned volunteers and workers to give generously of their
time, while also working to ensure that those with the wrong motives
and dangerous backgrounds are kept away from our children and other
vulnerable Canadians.
